Backlight unit (BLU) suppliers Radiant Opto-Electronics and Coretronic have reported strong sequential revenue gains for August, and both firms are expected to see their sales momentum continue into September, according to industry sources.
Radiant saw its consolidated revenues grow 8.46% on month and 34.57% on year to NT$4.807 billion (US$160.2 million) in August, the second highest level so far in 2017. Accumulated 2017 revenues through August totaled NT$34.48 billion, up 22.36% on year.
Radiant shipped a total of 13.38 million BLUs in August, increasing 13.98% from the previous months. Shipments of BLUs to the mobile device sector were up 21.26% on month to 9.725 million units in August, while those to the IT and TV sectors totaled 3.593 million and 4.8 million units, respectively.
Buoyed by strong sales of iPad devices and the release of new iPhone products, Radiant is expected to see its revenues hit NT$5 billion in September, the sources estimated.
Coretronic's August revenues came to NT$4.605 billion, up 9.54% on month but down 7.6% on year. For the first eight months of 2017, revenues totaled NT$32.97 billion, down 11.42% on year.
Shipments of Coretronic's energy-saving devices products, including BLUs, LCD modules, lighting modules and touch panels totaled NT$2.524 billion in August, up 3% on month. Meanwhile, shipments of visual solution products, mainly projectors, reached NT$1.548 billion, increasing 18% from the previous month.
Coretronic 's shipments of visual solution business are expected to maintain solid growth in the third quarter, while those of BLUs and other energy-saving devices will grow by at least 10% sequentially, said the sources.
