IC design houses Aspeed, Egistec post record January revenues

Server management SoC solution provider Aspeed Technology and Egis Technology (Egistec), a provider of fingerprint sensor chips, both saw their January revenues climb to record-high levels.

Aspeed has reported consolidated revenues for January 2017 climbed 64.4% sequentially and 72.6% on year to NT$174 million (US$5.64 million). The company's acquisition of Broadcom's Emulex Pilot chipset business unit buoyed its overall revenues for the month.

Aspeed shipped a total of around 4.48 million baseboard management controller (BMC) chips in 2016, a recent Chinese-language Commercial Times report quoted market watchers as saying. Shipments will climb to 5.3 million units in 2017.

Aspeed's overall shipments including those shipped by its Emulex Pilot business unit are expected to increase 40% on year to 6.6 million units in 2017, thanks mainly to strong demand for enterprise data centers from its US clients, the report indicated.

Egistec has announced consolidated revenues of NT$463 million for January 2017, up about 37% on month and a substantial increase from the NT$18.5 million reported a year earlier.

Egistec reportedly has obtained fingerprint sensor orders from Samsung Electronics and several China-based smartphone vendors.
